INTOLERABLE ACTS OF 1774
- These laws were enacted in order to punish the port of Boston and the people of Massachusetts for the Boston Tea Party.
BOSTON PORT ACT, 1774
- This act closed the port of Boston until the price of the dumped tea was recovered.
ADMINISTRATION OF JUSTICE ACT, 1774
- This act allowed the royal Governor of a colony to move trials to other colonies or even to England if he feared that juries in those colonies wouldn’t judge a case fairly.
MASSACHUSETTS GOVERNMENT ACT, 1774
- It abolished the popularly elected upper council of the colony and replaced them with a council appointed by the king.
- The act also gave the Massachusetts Royal Governor broad powers to remove various judges, marshalls, and justices of the peace.
QUARTERING ACT, 1774
- This law allowed a colonial Governor to house British Soldiers in unoccupied houses and barns.
